Iranian caricaturists - Fatemeh Nazardokht - women caricaturists
Fatemeh Nazardokht captures the essence of Agim Sulaj, an Albanian artist with Italian nationality, in her artwork. Sulaj began his artistic journey as a cartoonist and political satirist for the satirical magazine Hosteni, where he honed his skills as a caricaturist. Concurrently, he mastered the art of hyperrealistic painting. Nazardokht chose to depict Agim Sulaj for a cartoon competition, focusing on his frequent use of the suitcase symbol to convey the theme of immigration. In her artwork, Sulaj holds the suitcase in a manner reminiscent of a mother comforting and reassuring her child, demonstrating his empathy towards migrants who have faced struggles and made the decision to leave their homeland for various reasons. Through the repetition of the suitcase symbol in Sulaj’s works, one can discern his primary concern. With this in mind, Nazardokht deemed the suitcase as the most fitting subject and incorporated it into her drawing alongside the artist.
